"Cristiano Ronaldo: OK, here goes...
He scored a penalty and the ensuing celebration saw him take his shirt off and flex his muscles, much to the amusement of his teammates—and much to the dismay of many others. It gave you who love to criticise and complain about him the perfect opportunity to do just that.
That’s those of you who’ve never been carried away with the euphoria and emotion of a Champions League final win in your home country—when you’re not 100 percent fit, no less. A final you gave your all to get to, scoring 16 goals on the way to it. Oh right, that’s pretty much all of you, then. Get back to me when you have done this and let me know how well you did in maintaining your composure.
I’ve seen guys celebrating more emphatically than this after a win on FIFA 14, let alone the biggest final in European club football! How dare Ronaldo celebrate one of football’s biggest prizes like this?!
And whether it was already won or not is not an argument to me, it’s just another excuse to have a pop at him.
Granted, it will not go down in my top 10 favourite goal celebrations of all time, but I am also not going to lose any sleep over it. I hear so much psychological analysis (suddenly all are experts) and upset toward a goal celebration from people who never make even half as much noise about the good he does on and off the pitch, much more regularly, might I add.
And as for the “disrespectful” shouts, I’ve openly praised Atleti and spoken freely of my admiration for all they have achieved this year on their own merits. But playing with the utmost respect for their opponents is hardly their most redeeming quality. That’s football; that’s rivalry.
People, this is Ronaldo, we all know he’s a show-off, a caricature of himself. But it’s many of the critics that have made him just that. Yes, he may have an ego even bigger than his pectoral muscles, but it’s hardly breaking news. Shirt on or off, it was his 17th Champions League goal this season, a record that will take some beating. He scored in yet another Champions League final (and don’t forget he missed a penalty in his last one), and he’s been indispensable all season for his team, as is always the case, every season.
I don’t see half as many complaints about slaps, two-footed tackles and spitting in football as I have about this celebration. I suggest there has been some over-reacting to Ronaldo’s so-called over-reacting."
Ya he dicho que me parece un jugador superdeportivo y un profesional como la copa de un pino.ssabripo escribió:from people who never make even half as much noise about the good he does on and off the pitch, much more regularly, might I add.
